McDonald’s Brings Back Fried Apple Pie for Limited Time
The fast-food giant is reintroducing its iconic Fried Apple Pie to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

McDonald’s is bringing back its iconic Fried Apple Pie for a limited time, coinciding with the United States’ 250th birthday celebration. The popular dessert, which was largely removed from menus in 1992 due to health concerns, will be available starting June 23 at participating locations nationwide.
The return of the Fried Apple Pie marks its first wide release since 1992. The pies were originally created by Litton Cochran, an East Tennessee Owner/Operator, and became a local favorite before being pitched to founder Ray Kroc. His wife, Jo Cochran, is credited with perfecting the recipe. The Fried Apple Pie first appeared on McDonald’s menus in 1968.
The current baked apple pie, which features a lattice-topped crust, sliced American-grown apples, and cinnamon in the filling, was introduced as a replacement for the fried version. McDonald’s stated at the time of the baked pie’s introduction that the change was in line with other efforts to use fewer ingredients and natural components.
Fans have expressed excitement about the return of the fried version, with many recalling nostalgic memories associated with the dessert. Social media commentary indicates a strong desire for the pie to become a permanent menu item again.
In addition to the Fried Apple Pie, McDonald’s has also seen the return of other pies, such as the Blueberry and Crème Pie, which has made sporadic appearances since its debut in 2017. The Strawberry and Crème Pie, a similar offering with strawberry instead of blueberry, also returns occasionally, with its last appearance noted in early 2025.
