Elon Musk issued a strong warning Wednesday against Democrats who might investigate him if they gain control of Congress following the midterm elections. The billionaire tech mogul used a social media post to declare, “Live by the sword, die by the sword,” signaling his intent to retaliate against any probes into his companies and political dealings.

Musk’s Response to Democrat Investigation Plans

Musk’s remarks came as Democrats consider launching investigations into his business practices and political influence should they seize the House and/or Senate. The scrutiny follows reports that Musk ordered a slowdown of military-grade Starlink satellite assets in Ukraine, a move that has drawn significant criticism. In his post, Musk stated, “Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets.”

Democrats’ Focus on Starlink and Government Contracts

Democratic lawmakers have expressed interest in examining Musk’s role in the Starlink slowdown in Ukraine, as well as his tenure leading the Department of Government Efficiency. This department was responsible for dismantling the U.S. Agency for International Development and eliminating over 250,000 federal jobs. Representative Maxine Dexter, D-Ore., specifically highlighted concerns about Musk’s government contracts, describing him as part of “the well-connected billionaire, trillionaires who have seen government contracts as a way to subsidize their own company’s research, development, and bottom line.”

Conflicting Statements on Starlink Access in Ukraine

Musk has maintained that decisions regarding Starlink’s use and speed fall under the authority of the White House and President Donald Trump. However, President Trump said earlier this week he was unaware of who was responsible for the slowed Starlink connection in Ukraine, which has impaired the effectiveness of offensive and defensive drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio assured him the slowdown would be “unblocked.” Rubio has asserted that Musk and SpaceX control Ukraine’s access to Starlink satellites and assets.

Calls for Investigation from Both Parties

Senator Adam Schiff, D-Calif., has called for an official investigation into Musk, requesting the billionaire testify about his impact on national security. Schiff emphasized the grave consequences of slowing satellite speed, stating that decisions with life-or-death outcomes for Ukraine should not rest on the “personal whim of an unstable executive.” Republican Representative Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania also supports the investigation, showing bipartisan concern. Musk’s past comments include predicting that Ukraine would “inevitably lose” its war against Russia, which began in 2022 after Russia’s full-scale invasion. Musk has also described Starlink as the “backbone” of the Ukrainian military, acknowledging that “Their entire front line would collapse if I turned it off.”

Elon Musk’s net worth briefly returned to trillionaire status Wednesday, estimated at $984.4 billion, further underscoring his influence amid these controversies.

The unfolding political and security tensions surrounding Musk highlight the complex intersection of technology, government contracts, and international conflict as the midterm elections approach.
