Microsoft has reclaimed its position as the world’s largest company based on market capitalization, a title it recently lost to Nvidia before regaining it as Nvidia’s stock price declined. Microsoft, a multinational technology corporation, continues its dominance in the tech industry, attributed to its popular Windows operating systems, Office applications, and ongoing innovation.

As of August 26, 2024, Apple held the top spot with a market capitalization of $3,454 billion, followed by NVIDIA at $3,111 billion and Microsoft at $3,073 billion. However, more recent data from July 3, 2024, indicated Microsoft leading with a market cap of $3.351 trillion, with Apple at $3.312 trillion and Nvidia at $3.060 trillion. Alphabet (Google) and Amazon.com, Inc. consistently rank among the top five largest companies by market capitalization.

Market capitalization, a measure of a company’s value determined by the stock market, is calculated by multiplying the number of outstanding shares by the current stock price. This metric helps investors rank companies by size, potential return, and risk.

Other companies frequently appearing in the top rankings include Saudi Aramco, Meta Platforms Inc., Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), and Berkshire Hathaway. Berkshire Hathaway, a diversified holding company, has seen significant success attributed to its core insurance business, including GEICO, and its broad investment portfolio.

In a separate ranking that considers employee satisfaction, revenue growth, and environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) data, Apple was ranked first overall. Microsoft secured third place in this ranking, noted for its high employee satisfaction scores, while Accenture finished second.
