Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind President Donald Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, plunged to an all-time low this week as the platform struggles to retain users. On Monday, the stock fell more than 7.5 percent to an intraday low of $6.40, closing at $6.43 amid a 29 percent drop over the past month.
Truth Social’s Declining User Base
Truth Social has seen a significant decline in user engagement despite President Trump’s frequent posts. The platform averaged around 260,000 daily users last month, a drop of more than 30 percent compared to a year ago. This figure is far below its peak of 420,000 daily users in June, according to digital intelligence firm Similarweb.
In comparison, larger social media platforms maintain vastly bigger audiences. Facebook boasts more than 2 billion daily active users globally, while Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) draws upwards of 130 million daily users worldwide.
Business Ventures and Attempts to Reverse the Slide
In an effort to halt the decline, Trump Media has launched ambitious projects including ventures into gambling and cryptocurrency, though these have struggled to gain momentum. The company has also proposed a merger with nuclear fusion firm TAE Technologies. Additionally, it offers users early access to President Trump’s posts for a steep fee of $100,000 per month.
Despite these initiatives, none have yet demonstrated success in reversing the company’s financial or user engagement challenges.
President Trump’s Continued Role on Truth Social
President Trump remains the dominant presence on Truth Social, frequently posting multiple times daily. His content often includes AI-generated images, sharp political attacks, and claims disputed or disproven by independent fact-checkers.
A Daily Beast analysis from earlier this summer found President Trump posted 861 times in May, averaging 27 posts daily—the highest monthly total since returning to the White House. This surpassed his previous record of 782 posts and reposts in January. His activity has continued this October, including late-night posts targeting a federal judge who has since received death threats after ruling against him.
Historical Context and Platform Origins
Truth Social was launched in February 2022 after President Trump was banned from Twitter on January 8, 2021, following the U.S. Capitol attack. He established Trump Media & Technology Group the month after his Twitter ban. Though Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s Twitter account after acquiring the platform, Truth Social remains a key outlet for the president’s messages.
The company has been contacted for comment regarding the recent stock decline and user losses but has not issued a response.
