President Donald Trump delivered an unmistakable snub to Vice President JD Vance during a recent podcast interview, where he was asked to name the best-looking member of his Cabinet. The exchange, which aired amid a heated midterm election season, highlighted Trump’s preference for other members of his administration over his own second-in-command, raising eyebrows among political observers.

Trump’s Podcast Appearance Highlights Cabinet Looks

On the Pod Force One podcast hosted by Miranda Devine of the New York Post, President Trump was asked a lighthearted but telling question: who was the best-looking member of his administration. The choices presented were Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Trump acknowledged all the young cabinet members were attractive but hesitated before giving a clear favorite. He described Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as “a good-looking guy” and expressed concern about getting into trouble for his comments. Trump then praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio as “a great hot politician in the sense that he’s done great.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was dubbed “central casting” and likened to a leading man for a movie about the Treasury.

JD Vance Receives a Lukewarm Mention

Despite frequently being floated by Trump as a potential running mate alongside Rubio, Vice President JD Vance did not receive a standout compliment during the interview. Trump gave Vance a brief mention, saying, “JD, the same thing,” implying he was also doing well but offering no specific praise or emphasis.

This lukewarm treatment stands out given Vance’s prominent role as the vice president and Trump’s previous public support of a Vance-Rubio ticket. The subtle dismissal was interpreted by some as a humiliating snub.

Trump’s Focus on Appearance Amid Midterm Campaigns

The president’s remarks come as part of a series of comments focusing heavily on physical appearances in politics. Recently, Trump’s crude remarks about Ohio Senator Jon Husted’s physique went viral, with Trump describing Husted’s “great a–” and recounting how he had “watched up and down” the former football coach during an October 12 rally in Youngstown.

In addition to cabinet appearances, Trump continues to publicly compare his own looks to those of Elvis Presley, posting split-screen images on Truth Social to highlight the similarity. This fixation on physical appearance has been a recurring theme for Trump throughout the midterm season.

Political Implications and Public Reactions

Trump’s apparent snub of Vice President Vance came as Democrats were shown leading in all seven swing states in a New York Times poll released on Sunday, including an 11-point lead in Michigan. The midterm elections remain a critical test for Trump’s Republican administration, which controls the White House, Senate, and House.

The president’s focus on cabinet looks rather than policy or achievements may raise questions about his priorities as the midterms approach. Meanwhile, Vance’s position as vice president remains under scrutiny following this public slight.

As the midterms approach, Trump’s comments serve as a reminder that personality and image continue to play outsized roles in contemporary politics, even at the highest levels of government.
